Obituary for Amelia Mae Buchanan
Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Amelia Mae Ward Buchanan, 86, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Her family greeted her in heaven, including her parents, Janie and William Ward; Step-mom, Maddie; brothers, Levern, Oscar, Cartier, John, Lemuel, Percy and her sister Mary.
Mae worked at the bank in Mathews through many name changes from Farmers Bank of Mathews to Bank of America where she retired in 2001.
Mae will be truly missed by her husband of 67 years, Bernard Coles Buchanan; son, Bernard Coles Buchanan, Jr. and wife Debbie; grandson, Christopher Coles Buchanan and wife Hanna; great-grandsons, Christopher Buchanan and Tyler Lacks and great-granddaughter, Sheyenne. Mae is also remembered fondly by her brother, Melvin Ward and his wife Shirley and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to Noon at Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church followed by a celebration of Mae’s life. Burial will follow the service at Gwynn’s Island Cemetery.
