After leading a full and active life, Charles Robert Pierce, 97, of Glenns, VA, peacefully passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at his home with his family by his side.

Charles was born on the family homeplace May 4, 1923 and resided on part of that property his whole life. As a young adult, after the passing of his father during WWII, he kept the family farm going for his widowed mom while both brothers served in the U.S. Navy. Charles spent the rest of his life in the timber business. And when his brother Owen came home from the war, they ran Pierce Brothers Lumber together from the mid 1940s to 1980. Once retired, you could find Charles on his tractor in his garden or picking vegetables in the summer to share with all. During the winters, he could be found cutting and splitting firewood. He had a lifetime love of baseball and the Yankees since he was a young man when he played the game. In his younger adult years, he also enjoyed NASCAR Racing and traveled to many of the tracks of that time.

As a lifelong member of New Hope United Methodist Church at Glenns, he served as a Trustee and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for more years than anyone can remember. He also served as Chairman of Cemetery Committee and was an active member of the United Methodist Men’s Group.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Forest Pierce; mother, Ethel Pierce Hall; stepfather, Floyd Hall; brother, William Pierce (Ruth); brother, Owen Pierce (Dorothy); stepson, Jerry Gallicchio (Paige); and step grandson, Bryan Langford.

He is survived by his devoted companion and love, Ada Powell, his daughter, S. Jean Pierce (Sam Walker); grandson, Jonathan Foster (Tamara); great grandchildren, Valentina & Liam Foster; granddaughter, Jill Foster; son, Rob Pierce (Diane); granddaughters, Sara, Grace and Anna Pierce; stepdaughter, Nora Robbins; step grandchildren, Ben Langford, Travis and Ashley Gallicchio; nieces and great nieces and nephews; and beloved caretaker Alma Sickal.

A viewing will be held at 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021 at New Hope United Methodist Church, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 22, 2021 at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. Please be advised that current state-mandated guidelines will apply to all in attendance, including social distancing and appropriate face coverings. Pallbearers will be Bobby and Davis Wilson, Bryant Wilson, David Hall, Dale Perry, and Roland Pierce. Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home is in charge.

Memorial contributions can be made to New Hope UMC building fund c/o Kim Williams, P.O. Box 489, Shacklefords, VA 23156, and to Aylett Country Day School, P.O. Box 70, Millers Tavern, VA, 23115

Jeanie sorry for your loss of your father and prayers are with you. Charles was a good man and I always enjoyed running into him somewhere to see that smile. I remember meeting Charles as a little boy coming to visit my grandfather Cleveland Pierce and uncle Joe which a lot of times Charles would be on the front porch with uncle Joe during our visit. I also got to see his ability of operating equipment first hand as he help my Mom and Dad clear their land and we hauled dirt from his sand pit for their the driveway from across the road. He will diffidently be missed by all that knew him.
