Obituary for Esther Boroody-Gauthier

Esther Boroody- Gauthier passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2020 at age 90. She was born to the late Grace May Terry Wentisch and William Andrew Wentisch on June 17, 1929 in Holtsville, Long Island, New York. She is survived by her husband of almost 20 years, Roland Gauthier; his son, Mark Gauthier; her daughters, Valerie Papaleo (Michael), and Lynn Hamilton; grandson, Lucas Hamilton, along with cousins, children, grandchildren and other members of the Beglin, Boroody, Hamilton, Stuart and Eskijian families. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph A. Boroody, her son William J. Boroody, and her sister, Ruth M. Beglin.

Esther was a remarkable lady. Prior to locating to Mathews, Esther lived in Houston, Texas was active with Toastmasters in the Houston area and was a popular member of the prestigious Raveneaux Country Club. Always charming and enthusiastic, she was active at many Masonic activities with Roland to include the American Legion and Knights Templar Grand Commandery where she received the highest Women’s Award Certificate and Medal and was honored to be the first woman to give a speech at the Masonic Grand Master’s Official Visit.

Some of her other activities included the Mathews Homemakers Club where she was known for her hand-knit dish cloths, Toastmasters, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She was always willing to help with welcome buffets anywhere she was needed. Two of her favorite activities were the Celebration Singers Choir, the Stepping Stones Square and Round Dance Club where she met Roland.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster- Faulkner Chapel, Mathews. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 25th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Lovers Lane in Mathews with burial to follow in H. C. Smither Cemetery, Hudgins. All are invited to join the family for a reception at the community hall at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church following the interment. In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Prevention Foundation, P.O. Box 30783, Tucson, AZ 85751-0783 or to Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 176 Lovers Lane, Mathews, VA 23109.
