Obituary for Gene Ellis Helms Sr.

Gene Ellis Helms Sr., 82, of Dunnsville, Virginia passed away on December 11th, 2022. Born in Quinwood, West Virginia, PawPaw was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a civilian worker for both the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, VA and the U.S. Army at Fort A.P. Hill. He held an aircraft A&P license and worked on all types of aircraft. At A.P. Hill he was a heavy equipment supervisor. He was best known around town working for Tappahannock Chrysler Plymouth, Tappahannock Ford, and then as a proprietor for his own business, Helms Automotive. Gene loved all types of fishing, auto racing, and squirrel hunting in West Virginia. In his spare time, he enjoyed crafting pens and restoring old cars.

Gene is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathleen “Kathy” Helms; children, Sharon Hutter-Hafield (Rick) of McConnelsville, OH, Jennifer R. Helms, of Hague, VA, Gene Ellis Helms Jr. (Amanda Campagnola) of Dunnsville, VA, Kristen A. Helms (Bryan Myers) of Powhatan, VA; sisters, Janet Sayyad (His Twin) of Gaithersburg, MD, Charlotte Archer of Poolesville, MD, Joan Orndorff (Paul) of Elyria, OH, Carolyn Odell (Bert) of Florida; grandchildren, Amanda Joly (Eric) of Slatersville, RI, Kayla Hutter McConnelsville of Ohio, Madalyn Jayme Helms of Dunnsville, VA, Aiden Patrick Helms of Dunnsville, VA; great-grandchildren, Zachery and Alex Joly of Slattersville, RI.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, December 15th, 2022 at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Tappahannock Rescue Squad P.O. Box 583, Tappahannock, Virginia 22560. The family wishes a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Riverside Tappahannock Hospice.
