John Miller Smither, 79, of Saluda passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022. He was the son of the late John Morgan and Mabel Miller Smither. Miller retired after thirty-two years from the Virginia State Health Department as a Senior Shellfish Specialist. He was a member of Christ Church Parish, Middlesex County where he served in many capacities such as Senior Warden (twice), and the Christ Church Brotherhood. He was also a member of the American Kennel Club and a longtime chair of the Middlesex County Wetlands Board. Miller enjoyed volunteering for the Boy Scouts where he was honored by River District Scout Council for his dedication and contributions to scouting. He received the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, a national honor established in 1931 as a way local councils can honor outstanding Scoutmasters and leaders who work directly with the boys in Scouting. Survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Ginger Smither and her family and his step-sister, Beth Maxwell and her family. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Christ Church Parish, Middlesex County. Memorial gifts can be made to the David S.
