Obituary for Leon Milton Owens Jr.
Leon Milton Owens, Jr., age 95, of Redart, VA passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Owens; brother, Bud Owens; sister, Louise Diggs and granddaughter Lauren Owens.
He is survived by his brother, Archie Owens; children, Timmy Rowe (Brenda), Alice Stewart (Larry) and Bruce Owens (Kim); grandchildren, Brian Rowe (Amanda), Jason Rowe (Stephanie), Scott Stewart (Courtney), Caroline Emerson (Ethan) and Mitch Owens; great grandchildren Brian Keith, McKenzie, Kylee, Steven Wilson, Brayden, and Brynlee.
Leon was born March 28, 1927, in Redart, VA and lived his entire life in Mathews. Leon was a lifelong, faithful servant to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, serving Mathews Baptist Church in many capacities throughout his life. He was veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany at the end of WWII. He made his career at Sutton and Kline, later known as Moughon’s, Inc., serving the community’s needs in many ways. After retiring, he continued to help those in need into his early 90’s. During his retirement he enjoyed playing golf and found great joy spending time on the course with his children, grandchildren and his brother-in-law, Edward Diggs.
His greatest treasures in life were his family and his faith. His greatest gift in life was the manner in which he lived it.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Mathews Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the church with burial to follow at H. C. Smither Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mathews Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8, Hudgins, Virginia 23076. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews is assisting the family.
