MERCER, Lillian Ostrowski, “Beanie”, age 91, of Richmond, VA passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022. She was a graduate of Ridley Township High School in Woodlyn, PA and went on to receive her certification as a X-ray Technician at a hospital in Chester, PA. Lillian married her high school sweetheart, the late Melvin Reed Mercer and they were happily married 53 years. Lillian gave up her job and started her role as the matriarch of the Mercer family. Her gifts were the love and kindness that she poured out to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nothing gave her more joy and purpose. She had the gift of creating a unique relationship with each of her progeny as she considered their individual strengths and personalities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Marie Ostrowski, her husband, Melvin Reed Mercer, and her son Jerald Reed Mercer. She is survived by her son, Thomas E. Mercer, Sr. and his wife, Victoria; daughter, Christine M. Cogbill and her husband, Jimmy; daughter, Marie T. Mercer; daughter, Martha Talley; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In celebration of Lillian’s life, the family will receive guests June 12th from 12:30pm to 1:30pm at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, VA. Graveside service at 2pm at Harmony Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please do one act of kindness for someone.
