Obituary for Lt. Col. H. Lee Holloway III

Lt Col. H. Lee Holloway III, of Hartfield, Virginia died 7 June 2021. He was born 22 August 1951 in Richmond, Virginia and was the son of the late Dr. Harry L. Holloway, Jr. and Juanita Yow Holloway. He was a 1969 graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and a 1973 graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. At The Citadel he was a member of Lima Company in the Third Battalion and the Regimental Staff. He held the Cadet ranks of corporal, Platoon Sergeant, and Captain. He also was the Brigadier Exchange Editor, Fine Arts Usher, Protestant Chapel Usher and member of the History Club and Semper Fidelis Society. He held a U. S. Marine Corps scholarship and during graduation ceremonies he was awarded the Marine Corps Association Honor Graduate from The Citadel. Upon graduation he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a proud and honored “Double Dog” meaning he was a Citadel (Bulldog) graduate and a Marine Corps (Devil Dog) officer.

His 24 year Marine Corps career included assignments to HML-167, HML-367, COMNAVAIRLANT, MAG-26, COMNAVAIRSYSCOM, MALS-26 and the Defense Supply Center Richmond. He commanded MALS-26. He was a graduate of the U.S.A.F. Command and Staff College and the U.S. Army War College. While attending the War College he was the Editor of the 1993 Torch, the U. S. Army War College yearbook.

Following his military retirement he worked as a government consultant, retiring in 2011 from LTM INC as the Executive Vice President for Operations and Business Development. He enjoyed reading, duck hunting with his son, sailing, shooting and golfing with his many friends. He was a life member of the Military Officers Association, a life member of The Citadel Alumni Association, member of the Marine Corps Aviation Association, past Commodore of the Reagent Point Yacht Club, past President of the Rappahannock River Railroaders model train club, past President of the Windward Watch Home Owners Association and past President of The Landing Property Owners Association. He was a member of Urbanna Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth F. Holloway, 450 Steamboat Lane, Hartfield, Virginia; two sons, Harry Lee Holloway IV and Ben Lever Holloway, as well as, Thomas Benjamin Worthy & his wife Shelia, and a daughter, Amy Worthy-Foss & her husband Bill Foss. He is also survived by his mother, Juanita Yow Holloway of Milton, WA and his brothers, Ralph Johnson Holloway & wife Pam of Auburn, WA, and David Bryan Holloway & his wife Wendy of Snoqualmie, WA. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Harry Lee Holloway, Jr., and his sister Margaret Ellen Betting.

His was a life engulfed with the joy of living it to the fullest, led by a love for his family, friends & country. His passion for the Constitution formed his thoughts on leadership of this great country. Wisdom, integrity, honesty & joy were hallmarks of his character. He will be sorely missed.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in Urbanna Baptist Church. Arrangements by Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, VA.
