Obituary for Margaret Feil

Margaret Sheffield Smith Feil, 98, a 21 year resident of Rappahannock, Westminster Canterbury, Irvington, Va. made her final transition in this life August 2, 2020. She is survived by her sons, Dana S. Smith, John F. Smith IV (Eileen), grandsons J. Smith V, Powell Smith, and Talbott Smith and three great granddaghters. She was preceded in death by her first husband John Fletcher Smith in 1972 and second husband Delmar A. Feil in 2009.

She was born in 1921 in Dinwiddie County, Va., and she lived most of her life in Petersburg, Va. She was the mother of two sons, a devoted wife, a dedicated artist, a member of The Petersburg Area Art League and St. Marks United Methodist Church. After moving to RWC in 1999 she became an active participant in The RAL Art Center in Kilmarnock.

Margaret expressed her artistic talents in oil painting, acyrilic painting, encaustic painting, collage, and watercolor. Her creations have been exhibited in many galleries; including an international competition held in New York City and a show for Virginia artists at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Va. Being 'creative on canvas and paper' brought to Margaret feelings of accomplishment and emotional peace. Her 'creative self' will be missed by many friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at RWC on a date yet to be determined. Her family requests in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in her memory to the RAL Art Center in Kilmarnock, Va.
