Obituary

Nancy Tuck Ball passed away peacefully on July 23, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones. Nancy was born in 1926 in Mt. Landing, VA to Overton Tuck and Susie Parker Tuck.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Overton Malcolm Tuck, Sr. (Maxine). She is survived by her two children, Billy Ball and Sue Ball (Nick Brizendine) of Tappahannock; five grandchildren, Andi Ball Carlson (Tate), Christy Ball, Cory Ball (Sandra), Seth Saunders (Jenna) and Katy Saunders. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and a nephew, Overton Malcolm Tuck, Jr. (Jan) and their two daughters. She was also lovingly cared for by the staff at Carrington Place.

Affectionately known by many as “Granny Ball,” Nancy was the true matriarch of her family and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren. Nancy was a graduate of Tappahannock High School and a former employee of the Bank of Essex. Throughout her life, Nancy was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was one of the founders of the Essex County Junior Woman’s Club and an active member in the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as the Daughters of the Confederacy. Nancy was a talented artist and began painting at the age of twelve. In addition, she had a passion for flowers and baking cookies with her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel, Tappahannock. Funeral services and interment will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 5141 Dunbrooke Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560, on Friday, July 26, 2019, at 2 p.m. Reverend Charlie Ryan, Reverend Dr. Candine Johnson and Reverend Don Crews will officiate. Pallbearers will be Overton Malcolm Tuck, Jr., Page Ball, Tri Parker, Turpin Acree, BeBe Parker, Jerry Jordan, Cory Ball and Seth Saunders.

Granny Ball was a wonderful lady and always a joy to be around. One of her paintings has been hanging on the walls of every house we have lived in as a constant and beautiful reminder of her. I was blessed to know her. Dale Harter
