Obituary for Payne H. Turner
Payne H. Turner, 85, of Hartfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Payne was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Nelson Turner and Virginia Turner, as well as by his brother, Nelson Turner, Jr., and wife, Patricia Blake Turner. Payne is survived by his brother, Thomas A. Turner.
Payne was born August 19, 1933, at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond and lived on Hanover Street through his childhood. He was an accomplished engine builder and mechanic and worked many years for Richmond Machine Shop. He later married and moved to Middlesex County, where he worked for Fleet Brothers equipment dealership until retirement. Payne is remembered for his Christian humility and his quick wit even to his dying day. His trademark was his knit cap for which he earned the nickname “Chilly Willy." Payne will be missed by his friends who pray for his peace in God’s hands.
There will be a memorial service for Payne at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 30, at Lower United Methodist Church in Hartfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Payne may be made to Building Fund, LUMC, P.O. Box 98, Hartfield VA 23071.
