Obituary

Tammy Kay Ellis, 58, of Middlesex County, VA, was called home June 29, 2020 surrounded by her family.

Tammy was born in Hampton, VA on September 20, 1961 to the late Lynn Snyder and Janet Kay Snyder-McPherren.

Tammy enjoyed various careers but none more than her work at the Middlesex County Sheriffs office where she was a Communications Supervisor. Her work involved managing 911 calls for her fellow community members. She began her service to community as an EMT for Deltaville Rescue and as a volunteer at the Middlesex County Sheriff’s office in 2000 and then served along side her husband in the law enforcement field from 2003-2017. Her dedication to her work saved lives, averted tragedy, and encouraged her fellow officers.

Tammy loved family gatherings, going to the beach, and shoe shopping with her mother. More than anything, she loved her grandbabies and great grandbabies who so affectionately called her Memere. Her love for her many dogs and cats was abundant. In recent years, she and her Min Pin, Tucker, were inseperable. Tammy’s strength and courage was evident in all she did.

Tammy is survived by her husband, Jim Ellis of Middlesex, Sons; Jacob Schultz (Haley) of Williamston, NC, David Ellis (Heather) of Newport News, VA, Daughter; Karen Ellis (Brian) of Newport News, Mother; Janet Kay McPherren of Mathews, Sister; Tracy Gaskins (Mike) of Mathews, Sister in law; Linda Ellis (Russell), of San Antonio, TX, Grandchildren; Destiny Parenteau, Cheyenne Mello, Alyssa Tucker, Bethany Tucker, Sarah Ellis, Emily Ellis, Morgan Milby, Kaylyn Schultz, Brayden Schultz, Dylan Markel, and Lawson Schultz, Nephews; Camden Gaskins and Gage Gaskins, and four great grandchildren. Her special friend, Roni Everton, of Carriacou, Grenada and a host of cousins, uncles, and aunts, also survives her. All who truly adored her.

A service will be held on Monday, July 6, 2020 at 11am at Redeeming Grace Baptist Church, 10875 Indian Road, Gloucester, VA 23061. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to JDRF, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at JDRF.org or PO Box 37920, Boone, IA 50037-0920

My husband and I first met Tammy when we were members of Blue Water Vans. She was always a good, caring lady. After the club broke up we lost contact with her. But after many years we reconnected with her and Jim. It was as if nothing had changed. She was still as loving and caring as always. She was there for me both times when I was fighting Cancer. You will be missed my friend. May God Bless your love ones during this time. Gene&Sheila Campbell

It was truly my honor and my joy to call Tammy my dear friend. Though we didn't see each other as much as we should I cherish every memory of our years together. Jim, Tammy was absolutely loved and it will always be my joy to have known you both and to have her in my life. Rest in God's arms my sweet friend. I love you.
