Obituary for Wilbert "Woodles" Darnell
Wilbert B. Darnell, 79, of Topping, Virginia, passed away on February 9, 2021. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, and ten years in the Reserves. Mr. Darnell, known to most of his friends and family as “Woodles,” was a farmer, enjoyed helping people, teaching, and working outside. He also delivered newspapers for over thirty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Darnell, and Christine Bristow; his brothers, Bobby Darnell, J.W. Bristow, and Mason Darnell; and sister-in-law, Christine Darnell.
He is survived by his nephew, Jay Darnell (Angie); niece; Christina Bristow; great nephew, Aaron Darnell, and several other great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, Virginia, on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 10-11:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping, Virginia. Please be advised that current state-mandated guidelines will apply to all in attendance, including social distancing and appropriate face coverings.
