Obituary for William Edgar "Bill" Chadwell Jr.
William "Bill" Edgar Chadwell, Jr., 86, of Cobbs Creek, VA passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Riverside-Walter Reed Hospital surrounded by family. Bill was born on December 14, 1935 in New Kent County, VA. He retired from Greyhound Bus Lines as a District Manager. He and Pat, his wife of 57 years, moved permanently to Mathews County, where he embraced the role of "Big Dad" and loved having his children and grandchildren visit weekends and summers creating many beautiful memories. Bill loved the time he spent volunteering for Hands Across Mathews where he showed his generous and incredibly giving spirit to all those he met and helped.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Chadwell Fisher and his wife and best friend Patricia "Pat" Simmons Chadwell.
He is survived by his three children, Erin Chadwell Johnson (John) of Midlothian, VA., James "Eric" Chadwell (Monica) of Port Haywood, VA., William Edgar Chadwell III (Sharon) of Middlesex County, VA. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Jaret, Kaytlin, Stephanie, Ryan, Marguerite, Laura, Nicole; and 7 great-grandchildren: Wallace, Saylor, Holden, Tucker, Fathom, Kylie and Samuel.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 320 Williams Wharf Rd, Mathews, VA. 23109, on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at Kingston Parish on Main St. in Mathews. ln lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Hands Across Mathews, P.O. Box 1303, Mathews, VA. 23109 or Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, 94 Cricket Hill Rd., Hudgins, VA. 23076. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia assisted the family with the arrangements.
